Whether you are reading this because you are a complete gym virgin and need some tips, or you are just at a loose end and the gym is starting to bore you; either way I have some tips and tricks to help you out.
*THINGS TO TAKE TO THE GYM*
•Water Bottle - Although some gyms provide plastic cups, your own bottle is A) more practical to carry around and B) Saving the environment and all that!!
•Ear/Headphones - This is a must for me, gym sessions are my "Me Time" and it shows that you DON'T want to be engaging in conversation (in the politest way possible.) Also having some motivating music can really help me.
I use 'Spotify' and some of the best playlists I use in the gym are-
GYM UK- Spotify's own playlist
YOU CAN DO IT- Spotify's own playlist
POWER HOUR- Spotify's own playlist
GYM SESSION- Bethany Marson (my playlist)
•Sweat Towel - Depending on what training you are doing, I would highly recommend bringing one along. If you are doing Cardio or when you know there is going to be A LOT of sweat :).
Ps. If you was to do a "Spin Class" (Often called Indoor Cycling or RPM) You will sweat buckets.
*GYM CLOTHING*
•Again, this all depends on what you are training. I always wear shorts when I do cardio, because I don't like to be any warmer than I already will be.
•If I am having a weights session I always wear 'GYM SHARK' leggings; they are quite expensive BUT are fab quality and they are very comfortable.
•Vest tops are what I would lean towards, simply because lets be real, sweat patches aren't a good look. •I reccommend sports bras from 'GYM SHARK' and 'NIKE'.
•TIE YOUR HAIR UP, I know I sound like a PE teacher but FR, you will end up getting sooo irritated with hair flying about all over, trust me.
*GYM TIPS*
I know gyms can be a scary place, especially if you rarely/don't go. Lot’s of people tend to divert to a bike or a treadmill, and stay on it for an hour and go home. Yes it is a good start, butttt it can become a habit, and habits get boring. If you want to switch up your workout a bit, read below-
• If there is Manual settings on your cardio kit, USE THEM, “Fat Burn” + “Rolling Hills” are good settings, have a play and see what you like!
• Don’t be scared of the Free Weights corner, it's alright once you know what you can do. Use some lighter dumbbells and try some simple Bicep Curls + Lateral Raises. Google some more dumbbell exercises and experiment!
• Make sure you keep your muscle up! Cardio is good but keeping your strength is just as important. Try Resistance Kit, Like Chest Press, Lat Pull Down, Hip Abductor. These types of machines are fantastic, it‘s just getting used the the kit in your gym.
• Leg day is NOT everyday. Make sure you work your upper body too! Strengthening your back is also very important.
Hope some of these tips helped! Going more in depth with exercises in next weeks so keep your eyes peeled😊
